Proton therapy

First of its kind

With the opening of Eastpark Medical Center, UW Health will enter a new era in cancer treatment. As one of only a few select cancer centers in the country to offer proton therapy, UW Health | Carbone Cancer Center – in collaboration with Leo Cancer Care – will be the only health system to offer upright proton therapy. Proton beam therapy offers fewer side effects and more accurately targets the area to be treated, even hard-to-reach tumors that may be close to vital organs and tissue. Upright proton therapy will enable the treatment to be delivered to patients as they are sitting, offering better comfort while enabling even greater accuracy.

Strengthening our foundation

A new way of providing care

Improving the patient experience

Our Eastpark Medical Center is not just a new facility, but a new way to deliver care to patients. With multiple specialists and services under one roof, the care and experience will be consistent, coordinated and seamless. Through digital health technologies such as video visits, optimized electronic medical records and more, patients and their families will be connected to the care they need no matter where they are.

Removing barriers to patient care

At UW Health, we are committed to helping underserved populations access the care they need. Eastpark Medical Center will provide space and resources to address health disparities. We plan to partner with community organizations to reach out to isolated patients and those who traditionally don’t receive the care and treatments they should. This includes people from diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds.

Advancing health care through clinical research

As an academic medical center, UW Health is one of the nation’s leaders in clinical research. The new Eastpark Medical Center is the next step in our continued efforts to marry our studies of new therapies and treatments directly to your care plan. You can expect faster and easier access to the latest therapies and technologies for common and complex conditions.

Answering your questions

How does Eastpark Medical Center reimagine health care?

Eastpark Medical Center will be much more than a new building; it will be a destination for patients from across the region. It will bring a dramatic and positive change for our patients, referring partners, providers and clinical teams. Slated to open in fall of 2024, Eastpark Medical Center will house adult and pediatric cancer services, integrated specialty care for women, numerous other specialty clinics, advanced imaging and laboratory services. With improved access to care and a consistent, well-coordinated experience, patients will see multiple providers during a single visit rather than making numerous return visits for individual appointments.

What kind of cancer services will be provided?

As our population ages, we expect the number of adults living with cancer to rise. It’s our goal to bring cancer care closer to home and make going to appointments easier. Eastpark Medical Center will provide a modern outpatient setting for personalized cancer care. We will deliver collaborative services so that you can see multiple clinicians and receive any tests you need in a single visit. Our multidisciplinary tumor board reviews your medical records and treatment options to ensure you receive the most advanced care plan. When appropriate, and if you choose, a clinical trial can be part of your treatment plan. We will provide extensive concierge and supportive services to guide you through your cancer journey, from working with a nurse navigator to financial counseling.

What is integrated specialty care for women?

Integrated specialty care for women will be one of two distinctive programs at Eastpark Medical Center, alongside our adult cancer care. Specialists with extensive training in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery will provide diagnoses and treat a range of conditions, including:

How will Eastpark Medical Center benefit the community, including historically marginalized communities?

At Eastpark Medical Center, we are offering the community much more than a new building. In addition to the new facility, UW Health will unveil a new model of care, designed so patients can maximize the care they can receive in one trip. This model will lessen barriers by reducing travel time and expense.

In addition, we will also continue to focus on health equity through our participation in the Cancer Health Disparities Initiative. This is a collaborative program among UW Health, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the UW Health | Carbone Cancer Center. The initiative works to reduce inequities in cancer care through education, outreach, research and training.

What are Eastpark Medical Center's vital statistics?

Eastpark Medical Center will be located at 4621 Eastpark Blvd, across from UW Health East Madison Hospital. Construction is expected to be complete by Summer 2024. We plan to open fully Fall 2024.
